Earth Harvest Farm

Farm Principles & Practices

We grow everything naturally, meaning we use no toxic chemicals.  We are growing using a ‘beyond organic’ approach, which allows us to avoid the hassle of extra fees and paperwork as required by the USDA Organic Standards Act of 1999.  While not officially certified organic, we follow the organic standards and strive to go above and beyond by looking at the farm in its entirety.  Healthy and nutritious food comes from soil that is well cared for and from nature being a part of the growing process.  Our mission statement is as follows:

Earth Harvest Farm seeks to sustainably produce nutritious food of the highest quality fresh from the garden and bursting with flavor.  Using a ‘beyond organic’ approach, we are committed to growing food naturally while respecting and nurturing the Earth.  While acting as a model of sustainability, we hope to re-connect the community with the land which yields their food and to begin creating a more just and local food system.

We work…

-          to sustainably produce nutritious and high quality food for the local community

-          to educate the community about sustainable agriculture, healthy food choices, and sustainable living

-          to re-connect people with the origins of their food and with the land

-          to be a model of environmental and economic sustainability

-          to play a role in creating a more just food system

-          to financially sustain one farmer while working to provide financial stability for one family

-          to sustain the farmer and farmer’s family with the majority of their food

We believe…

-          that farmers should grow food of the highest quality this is nutritious, safe to eat, and grown without destroying nature

-          farms should allow and encourage nature and native plants to be a part of the farm and farmscape

-          in preventing erosion and soil degradation and minimizing habitat destruction

-          people need to be have a direct connection to their food and to the land

-          creating a more just food system entails involving families of all incomes in our CSA program

-          that business can be profitable while also respecting and caring for the Earth

-          in being truthful and honest

We oppose genetically modified crops, grain-fed livestock, confinement livestock operations, bovine growth hormone, and animal cloning and believe in offering humane and sustainable alternatives.
